VETERANS' RESOURCES

Pennsylvania's Department of Military and Veterans Affairs (DMVA) has a dual mission: to provide quality service to the commonwealth’s veterans and their families, and to oversee and support the members of the Pennsylvania National Guard (PNG).  We fulfill our dual mission by:

  • Providing resources and assistance to Pennsylvania’s more than 700,000 veterans and their families, and providing quality care for aging and disabled veterans.

  • Preparing the PNG for combat, performing worldwide combat and combat support operations, providing global reach and the projection of U.S. military power in support of national objectives; and, at the command of the governor, providing trained personnel to support state and local authorities in times of natural disaster or civil strife.

Our Mission is to fulfill President Lincoln's promise “To care for him who shall have borne the battle, and for his widow, and his orphan” by serving and honoring the men and women who are America’s veterans.

The Centre County Veterans Affairs Office assists Veterans and eligible dependents in applying for federal, state and county benefits. We advocate for Veterans and assist with all aspects of applying for benefits. Additionally, we may refer Veterans and dependents to other federal, state, county agencies and organizations that might further assist them in solving their problems or answering their questions.

Please use the following links to the U.S Department of Veterans Affairs Web Site to find out more information about potential federal programs:

While we will make every effort to assist walk-ins, we strongly recommend that you call for an appointment to ensure a Veteran Service Officer is available to talk with you and/or avoid a long wait.

If you have further questions or want to schedule an appointment please contact us at 814-355-6812.

WE HONOR OUR VETERANS

Purchasing a home can be a stressful process for the buyer (and seller too), bringing a mixture of emotions - excitement, nervousness, and uncertainty. We know, because we have helped thousands of veterans just like you to purchase a home. The key is to understand the basic steps in the home buying process.

We specialize in working with Active Military Personal and Veterans using VA Loans. One of our recent sales was working with a veteran who was currently deployed overseas. Working with his wife, we were able to get into contract a week after returning from a year long deployment using facetime and lots of photos.

It’s critical for military borrowers to use an Realtor® who’s worked with VA loans and understands the program’s requirements.

If your PCS orders have you moving away, you may need to sell your home as soon as possible. Home hunting is often done from a distance and selling negotiations may have you communicating with your Realtor® from remote locations. Realtors who can maneuver through the agency's procedures can save borrowers from big-time hassles and headaches on things like appraisals and property criteria.

Since the VA loan program's inception in 1944, the Department of Veterans Affairs has backed more than 21 million loans for veterans, active-duty military members, and their spouses. This program has made buying a home more accessible to those who most deserve the American Dream they helped build and protect.

Most members of the regular military, veterans, reservists and National Guard are eligible to apply for a VA loan. Spouses of military members who died while on active duty or as a result of a service-connected disability also can apply.

You may also apply for eligibility if you fall into one of the following categories:

  • Certain U.S. citizens who served in the armed forces of a government allied with the United States in World War II

  • Individuals with service as members in certain organizations, such as Public Health Service officers, cadets at the United States Military, Air Force, or Coast Guard Academy, midshipmen at the United States Naval Academy, officers of National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration, merchant seaman with World War II service, and others

  • The property purchased with the prior VA loan has been sold and the loan paid in full

  • A qualified Veteran-transferee (buyer) agrees to assume the VA loan and substitute his or her entitlement for the same amount of entitlement originally used by the Veteran seller. The entitlement may also be restored one time only if the Veteran has repaid the prior VA loan in full, but has not disposed of the property purchased with the prior VA loan.
